a plot where muse a and muse b have been friends since childhood — here and there, they would have a one night stand, but never really allowed themselves to progress into anything more than just friends. now, as adults who are figuring out the dating scene isn’t as easy as their parents made it seem, muse a and muse b are seeing each other more and more frequently. eventually, muse a starts seeing someone new, and has less and less time for muse b. i’m talking jealousy, tension!!! muse b realizing maybe they’ve had feelings for muse a the whole time, muse a having to make tough decisions — either continue dating this new person or hurt muse b!!! i liiiiive for drama pls

childhood sweethearts (with a twist)

okay but a plot where close childhood friends reunite — except muse a was in love with muse b growing up, and muse b became muse a’s best friend’s high school sweetheart. muse a concealed their feelings for muse b all throughout their friendship, in high school & college, although both muses definitely had feelings & felt sparks for one another long before muse b started dating muse a’s best friend. despite the connection they’d felt, neither wanted to jeopardize any of the friendships between the three, and ultimately, muse b ended up married to muse a’s bff… except now, years later, muse a and muse b reunite at muse a’s best friend’s funeral. imagine the hurt of losing a loved one but having the comfort of yet another loved one?? blurred lines, tension, second-guesses…….

okay so i’ve been kicking around a ranch hand plot where muse a is looking for help around the ranch they’ve just inherited due to a death in the family, and seeing as they’re just one person with lots of land, and virtually no knowledge on how to take care of it, it’s impossible to go it all on their own… enter muse b. muse b, a man who not only knows how to work the land but can take care of the ranch with ease, finds it impossible to not take care of muse a, while he's at it. just give me texan sunsets and lovers with low static music crooning in the background from some vinyl record please & ty

a friends with benefits plot where muse a is dead-set, hellbent on not having a relationship and not getting too intimately involved with muse b; muse b has been in love with muse a for years, and muse a knows this, but still can’t bring themselves to get emotionally attached. i need tensionnnn and like, a lil toxicity ykwim??? for the angst omg

so hear me out — a plot where muse a and muse b met at a friend of a friend’s party & instantly hit it off. muse a is immediately infatuated with muse b — they laugh, talk, drink; they even make an incredible beer pong team. at some point during the night, muse a decides to put the moves on muse b. however, after leaving to get them some drinks, muse a comes back to find muse b kissing someone else… and to make it worse? it’s their boyfriend/girlfriend. tbh this plot could have the potential of a shakespearean comedy if we did it right akdjgh ok i'm talking messssssssyyyy 

you feel like home (but i’ve got a different address)

okay so i need a tense plot where muse a and muse b are soulmates, beyond the shadow of a doubt — but muse a is married to a nightmare of a spouse. little by little, they spend more time together one on one, but it’s getting increasingly harder for muse b to see muse a with their spouse, especially knowing how that spouse treats muse a. idk this is a rough plot/work in progress plot but i feel like it has potential to go somewhere!!!

𝐚 𝐧𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐥𝐦 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭 - a group of friends wake up one morning after some particularly vivid nightmares only to find strange marks on their bodies and realizing they all saw the same killer in their nightmares. from then on, they became afraid to sleep, discovering that people were being killed in their sleep by some strange entity.

bonus: make one of them be able to walk in dream and team up with the dream to fight back the entity.

𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐲𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐫 - one year after the gruesome murders of all the residents of the house, a family move-in with their children. over the following weeks, their domestic life begins a sharp decline, family members being uncharacteristically volatile and abusive, strange incidents happening to the children, one of them having an imaginary friend who seems malevolent. incidents escalate and information about the house is found, revealing the long terrific history within its wall.

𝐜𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 - a group of friends rent a remote cabin in the woods. one of them ventures out to hunt and accidentally shoots a hermit that had been infected by a mystery illness and says nothing to his friends. when the hermit shows up at the cabin, he's refused help. one by one, they start to show signs of the illness and discover that their source of water has been contaminated.

alternative: two children take water from a source that has been contaminated and sell lemonade to town folks, propagating the illness further.

𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬 - it's the last operating week of a once grand hotel and only two employees remain, both fascinated by the haunting history of the hotel, particularly by one bride who hung herself in her room and the fact that her body was hidden in the basement by the owners. only a few guests remains, all of them stranger than the others. After an unexplained incident, one of them starts to record paranormal activity in the hotel, leading to a series of accidents and deaths among the remaining guests.

𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 - a couple has recently moved into a new house with their children. one day, one of the children ventures into the attic and where he mets a mysterious entity. the next day, the child slips into a coma. after months and still no explanation, the family brings back their child home and soon after, strange incidents start to happen, leading them to declare the house haunted and moving out. however, the paranormal activities follow them to their new home and a team of parapsychologists and mediums are called, leading them to discover a malevolent entity close to their comatose son. it's discovered that one of the parent once had such events happen to them and they use his abilities to bring back their son from the further, where he's being held by the malevolent entity.

𝐢𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐰𝐨 - decades after a group of children defeat some evil in their small town, some disturbing event happen again. only one of them remained in their hometown and following the return of the entity that traumatized them years ago, the others are called back to honor the promise they once made to kill the entity if it ever came back.

bonus: one of them has visions of their deaths if they ever fail to fulfill the oath they swore as children.

𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐛𝐨𝐲𝐬 - having recently moved to a small town, muse a becomes fascinated with a biker gangs and muse b, a member. muse a is being introduced to the gang and start to get tested by them in order to become trustworthy. muse a starts to undergo a transformation where the smell of food repulse them and starts to be attracted to blood and it becomes clear they are changing.

alternative: muse a and muse b are both humans and one of them wants to become part of the biker gang and the other tries to save them.

𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭 - following a severe thunderstorm, muse a and muse b notice a thick fog slowly creeping over. while buying grocery, a neighbor quickly enter the shop and warns everyone that something is in the fog. they watch as someone else gets taken over by it and stay inside the store with others for a day. religious folks within the store takes this opportunity to recruit people to their belief and a cult slowly organize, deciding that sacrifices must be given to the fog to appease it.

𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 - following the stillborn birth of their son, muse a is encouraged to adopt an orphan newborn while muse b is unconscious, replacing their stillborn child by this one. as the child grows, disturbing events start to happen around the family and they are eventually contacted by someone who had been involved in their adopted child birth, declaring them the antichrist. muse b start to think that their son is evil and fears them.

alternative: writing one of the parents and the outside person involved in the birth.

𝐨𝐩𝐫𝐡𝐚𝐧 - after their daughter is stillborn, the parents of two children decide to adopt an orphan. one of their children embraces her but the other is hesitant toward them. slowly, their adopted child starts to show disturbing behavior, scaring the children and making one of the parents doubt the other.

𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐢𝐬𝐭 - a family living in small community starts to experiences strange incidents following their youngest child issuing a warning that they are there. the incidents seems benign at first but soon grow in intensity leading to injuries. a parapsychologist is called to the house and reveal that it's under attack by many different entities, eventually discovering that they are drawn to one of the children's life force, even going as far as using her to stop other spirits from crossing over.

alternative: writing the parapsychologists and mediums investigating the house instead of writing the family.

𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞 - following an economic collapse, a new political party is voted into place, and instated the purge, a yearly event where all crime is permitted by 12 hours. decades later, crime is practically gone and the purge night has become a a celebrated event by many. muse a and muse b are just trying to survive the night.

𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 - muse a, a true crime writer, moves into a new house with muse b and their children. unknown to everyone but muse a, the house was home to a tragedy that killed all family members decades ago, in the hope of writing a bestseller about the event. one night, muse a finds a box of gruesome family movies. muse a notices strange symbols and begins to research each event, discovering that a child went missing at each killing.

𝐯𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐧𝐞𝐝 - one day, ten women wake up pregnant despite none of them trying. all ten children are born at the same time, five boys and five girls, except one is stillborn, making his pair partner alone. all the other children act the same, as if ruled by one entity, and show no personality. as they age, they start to show signs of paranormal abilities that are being used only to harm others. muse a and muse b could be parents or one of them could be the lone child grown up.

angsty/tense plot ideas for familial and platonic connections

in this economy, angsty and dramatic familial and platonic plots are hard to find. i've composed a list of plots — based off things that have happened in my real life (to me or my friends) and pop culture — that I exaggerated to make what I think would be interesting plots. I left them open ended so that resolution could be what you make it!

Note: I tried to make most of them friendly to most town rps, in the sense that they can filled by average characters in an average setting and not violate most rp rules.

FAMILIAL

we're half siblings and while we grew up with the same parents for the majority of our lives, one of us has their biological family reaching out and making contact. this is creating a rift because suddenly you think one of our parents isn't as great as the bio one, and some secrets are being revealed.

tw pregnancy / infertility: your family member and their partner have been trying to have a child. they've had a hard time conceiving and/or carrying. as it turns out, you're someone who can carry a child so you're offering up your help... except it's your first time so you're a little worried and this is a huge under taking.

we're cousins — but our parents got into a fight over our aging grandparents' care and one of us decided to not invite the other's set of parents to a major event (like a wedding). instead of owning up to it, the cousin who didn't invite the aunts/uncles decided to make the other cousin speak to their parents.

we're cousins — but you slept with my significant other's sibling. The sibling just wanted to have a casual hookup, like you were told by everyone, but you're hooked on them and now gatherings are kinda weird and the behavior is out of control.

one character's family member has a kid or kid(s). The two have fostered a good relationship with them and even encouraged it. Except now the kid keeps asking the character who is not their parent about advice for various situations that are a little above what should be happening in their age range.

both character's parent is a total milf/dilf/pilf. it wasn't really understood or recognized when they were young because they always had a partner. now that they're grown, they keep noticing that their partners tend to flirt with their mom, and their mom flirts back.

one character's family member was posted on one of the facebook groups that people use to post about red flags about dating. now the one character can't help but treat the family member different based on the tons of comments that were received. (alternatively, this could be about a friend and they screenshot and showed the friend)

one character spotted their family member's spouse cheating on them, and told the family member. this happened in the past, and now comments are being made by the other character about how the character ruined their trust in significant others at family gatherings.

the two characters are siblings. one character was dating someone who then went on to date their parent. now that ex is married to their parent and since, as close siblings, you shared a lot of details back when you were dating, it's really, really weird.

PLATONIC

two characters have been close friends for a long time, one person is the one that gets all the partners and the other has been single for a while. the perpetually single one has seen the other go through straight hell with partners... and then one day they get a partner who the other doesn't like and doesn't think is as great as one dating them.

two characters have been bar buddies for a long time. not close, but they like each other enough and they're all intermingled with the same people and have been for years. until they both slept with someone else in the group. now that person is calling only one of them back.

the two characters were always friendly. until one's partner and them started going through a rough patch. the other character were out one night and met that partner while they were also out and just hung out as friends. however, the partner has been commenting on single's character's social media and now the tenuous friendship is tense.

one character has welcomed a new friend into their lives. this new friend seems to have a very flexible sense of boundaries (according to the one muse) as it pertains to other people's partners. the one character has heard it in stories they've told about their dating past, and most of their other friends have partners they're protective of.

One of the characters slept with someone that is a friend to the partner of the other. It was horrible and all the gory details were shared between them. Now they have to keep a straight face around the partner's friend, who keeps asking them how it was and why the one won't call.

two characters became friends because they were dating sibling that liked to hang out a lot. now, because one character has split from a sibling while other either has retained dating the sibling or they split but retained being friends with their partner, they're around for the messy breakup from both sides that ensues.

two characters used to be coworkers for the same shitty and toxic company that became friends. As one character got unjustly fired from the company, the other stayed. The character that left started to work through various ways of getting even with the company, with help of course from their pal that was still working there.

two characters met online. they became fast friends and even started to meet up in the real life. they called each other best friends. one night, one friend slept with a someone close of the other's. The someone close told one side of the story, and one of the characters never checked with the other on what their side of the story was, but started to treat the other differently.

two characters were close friends. After a fight over something silly, the other character unfollowed them on social media and started ghosting the other. the only issue? they're in the same friend group and see each other all the time.

these nights / muse a & b have a deep connection, nothing like either of them have before. they only want each other, only have yearning for each other. they are both known to move too fast in past relationships but their connection is driving them to move faster than they want to, feel like they have no other choice but to go all in. no matter how much either of them want to slow things down, try to slow things down, it's like their connection is what controls them and it's a struggle of trying to keep away for long enough to not let their connection consume them. strange land / muse a is lost, can't seem to find themselves after a breakup. muse b was their home, their centre. nothing feels right or comfortable anymore and it's hard watching life go past while they can't seem to settle. muse a keeps going back to muse b time after time, despite muse b trying to move on, because muse a feels like they can only be themselves with the other. it's hard to see anything other than their relationship. muse b wants to pull away but sees how much muse a is struggling without a constant, which is them. it's hard for either of them to navigate their break up and find themselves back together way too much. need is your love / muse a and muse b had a one night stand. muse a keeps running back to muse b for 'just one more night' but has become addicted to the connection they have with the other. a constant cycle of another night to break contact and come running back in a couple of weeks because muse a can't find anyone like muse b and they don't want to admit they have feelings. tequila sunrise / muse a knows that they are no good for muse b, that the relationship is toxic but they're so in love with the other person that they cannot walk away. they try to go nights without arguing but it all ends up coming back to the same point. they say that each time will be different, that they will be the best version of themselves, but it's a toxic cycle. muse b loves muse a but there's only so much toxicity that they can take.

fresh out the slammer

troubled teens turned young adults, muse a and b were always bad news together. that was until muse a finds themselves tossed in jail, taking the fall for muse b in the process. muse b promises to wait for muse a. but ten years is a long time. once released muse a finds their way back to muse b, only to discover that muse b is a completely person - married, uppity, nothing like the person they had once fallen for. could they coax muse b back to their old ways? can muse a step it up and win back their love?

florida!!!

for whatever reason, maybe a crime or forbidden love or need for a new start, muse a convinced muse b to runaway with them. they find themselves in a small town in florida, taking on new identities and attempting to start over. but the past always has a way of catching up doesn't it?

muse a and b met one summer, a brief fling. but muse a can't stop thinking about them, muse b plagues their thoughts. they know the two are meant to be together, that their stories aren't over yet. and so muse a continues to make muse b care, but continually fails. that is until muse a is about to give up...and muse b is there again. who knows what happens next?

the manuscript

two artists (actors, writers, painters etc) have been together for years, both struggling to make it big. they finally work on a project together - but as soon as they finish it their relationship dissolves. they promised each other they would only publish their project together so it takes a backseat. that is until a few years later, muse b is desperate for new material, and finds their old project with muse a. now they publish it (a book, movie etc) and are launched into fame. everything seems great until muse a shows up again, hurt and angry and demanding that muse b share.
